The Big Bash League is Australia’s T20 competition, played over the Australian summer by eight teams. The regular season decides the top four, and those four teams go into the finals. That makes the Big Bash League standings the most useful page to check as the season unfolds. This blog covers what’s on the table, who’s on it, how the finals run and what the standings mean for cricket betting online on Arena365.

Big Bash League Standings in a Minute

  • Teams: Eight

  • Format: T20, so 20 overs a side

  • Season length: 44 games in BBL|16, from 12 December to 26 January, 2026

  • Finals spots: The top four on the table

  • Table columns: Matches, wins, losses, no results, net run rate and points

Plenty can interrupt a summer T20 game in Australia, and the weather and rain forecast for a night game is worth a look before you bet. A match with no result gets its own column on the table, as you’ll see below.

The Eight Teams Behind the Big Bash League Standings

Each row on the table shows a team’s matches played, wins, losses, no results, points and net run rate. Teams are listed with the most points at the top. Here is the full BBL|15 table, in order, with a line on each team:

  1. Perth Scorchers: 10 matches, 7 wins, 3 losses, 14 points, net run rate 1.363. They topped the table and won the final for their sixth title.

  2. Sydney Sixers: 10 matches, 6 wins, 3 losses, 1 no result, 13 points, net run rate 0.605. They were runners-up in the final.

  3. Hobart Hurricanes: 10 matches, 6 wins, 3 losses, 1 no result, 13 points, net run rate 0.331. Third place earned them a home Knockout.

  4. Melbourne Stars: 10 matches, 6 wins, 4 losses, 12 points, net run rate 0.759. That was enough for a finals place.

  5. Brisbane Heat: 10 matches, 5 wins, 5 losses, 10 points, net run rate -0.431. They finished just outside the top four.

  6. Adelaide Strikers: 10 matches, 4 wins, 6 losses, 8 points, net run rate -0.231. In BBL|16 they host the Stars at Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve.

  7. Melbourne Renegades: 10 matches, 3 wins, 7 losses, 6 points, net run rate -1.202. They open BBL|16 against the Scorchers in Chennai on 12 December.

  8. Sydney Thunder: 10 matches, 2 wins, 8 losses, 4 points, net run rate -1.212. In BBL|16 they face the Sixers at Engie Stadium on 19 December.

From the Top Four to the Final

The finals have four stages, and the order on the table decides where you start.

  • Qualifier: First against second, and the winner goes straight to the final

  • Knockout: Third against fourth, a sudden-death match

  • Challenger: The Qualifier loser against the Knockout winner, so the top two get a second chance

  • Final: The Qualifier winner against the Challenger winner

In BBL|16, the Qualifier is on 19 January and the season decider is on 26 January, with a reserve day available.

Three Things That Stand Out About the Big Bash League Standings

A second chance for the top two. Finishing in the top two gives a team two routes to the final. That’s why the race for first and second matters so much, even when a team has already secured a finals spot.

Tight tables. After 10 matches each in BBL|15, second to fourth were separated by a single point, with 13, 13 and 12. In a league this close, one result can change the picture.

A new over-rate rule in BBL|16. Bowling teams have 84 minutes to complete their 20 overs. Once the timer expires, full Powerplay conditions come into force for the rest of the innings, and any breach gives the batting side more than six overs with only two fielders outside the circle. Cricket Australia’s announcement says batters stand to benefit.

Big Bash League Standings in Action: Real Examples

The BBL|15 table. Perth finished first on 14 points with a net run rate of 1.363. The Sixers and Hurricanes were both on 13, and the Sixers were listed higher, with a net run rate of 0.605 against 0.331. The Stars had a better net run rate than either, 0.759, but sat fourth on 12 points. On the official table, points came before net run rate.

The BBL|15 final. On 25 January 2026 at Optus Stadium in Perth, the Scorchers beat the Sixers by six wickets with 15 balls to spare. The Sixers made 132, and David Payne took 3/18 and won Player of the Match. A record home crowd of 55,018 watched Perth win a sixth title. The team that topped the table hosted the final and won it.

The BBL|16 opener in Chennai. Renegades v Scorchers on 12 December is the league’s first match in India, and it appears on the table like any other match.

What the Big Bash League Standings Mean for Cricket Betting Online
A T20 table is tight by nature, and one result can move a team up or down a place, which is why the habits experienced bettors build matter as much as the table itself. A fixed stake, a clear read of the price and a few well-chosen matches go a long way, and the standings give you a quick view of form and what a team still needs.

Say the side on top of the table is priced at 1.65 to win and a mid-table side at 2.30. A stake of ₹1,000 on the favorite returns ₹1,650, which is ₹650 in profit. Dividing 1 by each price gives about 60.6% and 43.5%. Together that’s 104.1%, and the extra 4.1% is the margin built into the prices. If the favorite then loses twice in a row and its price drifts to 1.90, the chance behind it falls to about 52.6%. The market is following the table.

A few ways to use the standings:

  • Check what’s at stake. A team chasing a top-two finish has more to play for than one that has already secured a place.

  • Look at net run rate. It’s listed beside the points on the official table, so you can see it at a glance.

  • Read the finals path. The Qualifier, Knockout and Challenger each carry different pressure for the teams involved.
