Which teams play in each final depends on the final table.

Double-Headers in the Big Bash League Schedule

A double-header means two matches on the same day, played back to back. BBL|16 has six of them: 26 December, 1 January, 4 January, 10 January, 16 January and 17 January. The 16 and 17 January weekend closes the regular season, with all eight teams in action and top-four places on the line.

The schedule also works around the Test calendar. In total, 18 BBL games are scheduled in the evening after a Test match, which makes for some very long days of cricket.

The Road to the Final

The top four teams on the table reach the finals, and the four-stage format is unchanged. First plays second in the Qualifier on Tuesday 19 January, and third plays fourth in the sudden-death Knockout the next day. The Qualifier loser gets a second chance in the Challenger on 23 January, and the Qualifier winner meets the Challenger winner in the decider on 26 January, with a reserve day available. The decider avoids the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test (21 to 25 January) and falls on a public holiday.

Three Things That Stand Out About the BBL Schedule 2026

A first outside Australia. The Chennai opener is the BBL’s first match outside Australia, and the league’s official site calls it the first foreign league to play a regular-season fixture in India.

A bigger Melbourne. Melbourne hosts nine regular-season matches, up from seven, including two derbies at the MCG on 4 and 16 January.

Canberra gets more cricket. Manuka Oval hosts three matches, the most in a season since BBL|10.

Using the BBL Schedule 2026 for Betting

With a match almost every night, a step-by-step approach to cricket betting online helps you keep each decision separate. Here’s a worked example with made-up numbers. Say the home side is priced at 1.75 to win and the visitors at 2.10. A stake of ₹500 on the home side returns ₹875, which is ₹375 in profit. Dividing 1 by each price gives about 57.1% and 47.6%. Together that’s 104.8%, and the extra 4.8% is the margin built into the prices.

A few ways to plan around the schedule:

  • Look at the gaps. Check how many days each team has between matches.

  • Treat double-headers as two decisions. Each game has its own teams, venue and prices.

  • Mark the finals dates. The Qualifier on 19 January and the decider on 26 January are the dates the whole season builds toward.
