The entire process of how to bet on IPL is fairly simple, and by the time you are finished reading this blog, you may wonder why you were worrying about it at all.

The IPL follows a T20 format, and as exciting as the speed of the format is the simplicity of betting on it. This article is a step-by-step guide to IPL betting and cricket betting for beginners, some common markets that are simple to read and which ones you can get started with as a beginner, and helpful tips to know before you make your first wager.

How to Sign Up and Start IPL Betting

Signing up on Arena365 is fairly simple and you’ll be all set in just 2 easy steps:

  • Step 1: Create an Account: If you’re already a member, hop on to the next step, but if you’re new to Arena365 and haven’t yet created an account, head to the home page and Sign Up with your mobile number. Then opt for receiving a confirmation code via WhatsApp or SMS, and once you’ve got it (which is usually within 10 seconds or so), enter it and continue to complete the sign up process.

  • Step 2: Add Funds: Now that you’re signed up, the next step is to fill up some money in your betting wallet so you have it at the ready. The add money (+) sign is fairly clearly visible in the top right corner. Add funds to your wallet via a UPI transfer, an IMPS bank transfer, or via Crypto currency. Once you’ve opted for one of three methods, select a predetermined amount or enter a custom amount and follow the instructions on the screen to complete the transaction.

Pro Tip: You can set up the account you want your withdrawals to be sent to, but that happens only once you have played through your deposit at least once. Withdrawals are sent to the same account that you used to deposit your funds from in the first place.

How to Pick an IPL Match

You can access all available cricket and IPL betting markets under the Sports>Cricket section. It displays both live matches and upcoming ones, so each time the IPL tournament is live, you can view the matches under each of the two tabs depending on when they are scheduled to be played. Select a match you want to bet on, head to View All Markets, and you’ll see a long list of the different predictions and combinations (betting markets) that are available to wager on. But, don’t be overwhelmed. I am going to simplify it for you to a T.

Understanding IPL Betting Markets

Now that you’re set to move on to actual cricket betting, let’s understand what a match market or betting market is before we move to learning how to bet on IPL matches. A match market is nothing more than a simple question, and you have the option of deciding which of the two answers is the one you’ll bet on. For instance, a ‘Winner’ match market simply gives you the option of choosing between which of the two teams will win that particular match.

If, for example, there is a match between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, you can bet on the team that you feel is likely to win. And while you may be confident of which will be the more likely winner, it is always safe to understand the odds and the resulting money at stake. I have explained that in the next section, along with some of the most commonly bet-on markets.

How IPL Betting Odds Work and Placing a Bet

To begin with, let’s understand what those decimals are that you see for each match market. Known as decimal odds, or betting odds, they depict the return you can expect on your bet.

Take the example of Gujarat Titans versus Lucknow Super Giants. Let’s assume that the decimal odds under the “Winner” market for their match shows 1.90 for the Titans and 2.00 for the Super Giants. This is the return rate you can expect on the amount bet by you if the team you choose, wins. If you bet ₹100 on Gujarat Titans and they win, you will get a return of ₹100 x 1.90 = ₹190. And if you choose Lucknow Super Giants and they win, you will get a total return of ₹100 x 2.00 = ₹200. If the team you choose does not win, you will simply lose the sum you bet.

But, there is a catch. The team that has the bigger return is the less likely winner. That is how odds are generated universally. So you may get a higher return, but the chances of that event happening are less likely than the chances of the opposite happening. So in our example, Lucknow Super Giants may have the higher return but are less likely to win this match against Gujarat Titans, based on odds.

All that glitters is not gold after all, eh! But, betting is a game of chance, so you win some, you lose some, and no sport can be predicted 100% ever. Always remember that!

Best IPL Betting Markets for Beginners

It is never too late to enter the arena, is what I believe. You may be a first-time bettor or someone who recently started out, or even someone who has been betting on sports for a while now, almost a pro, and just wants to take it easy for a bit. This small compilation of beginner-friendly IPL betting markets can be the perfect toolkit to have at the ready.

  1. Match Winner: Pick which of the two teams playing the IPL match will win. This is one of the simplest IPL betting markets because you only need to predict the final result.

  2. First Innings Total (Over/Under): Predict whether the team batting first will score above or below a set total. This market is popular if you prefer focusing on runs rather than picking a winning team.

  3. Top Batter: Pick the player who will score the most runs for a team. Analyse not just recent scores but also form, performance against the same opposing team in a past match, etc.

  4. Player to Score 50+ Runs: Predict whether a player will score at least 50 runs. This is more an individual’s performance than a team’s.

  5. Next Over Runs: This is a live betting market where you predict how many runs will be scored in the next over. Here, odds can change quickly depending on the situation and the batters on the crease.

Memorize These Tips Before You Bet

Getting carried away while betting is easy, but some basic tips to keep in mind can help you make better predictions and keep your bankroll from running out too soon.

  1. Set a budget for your betting and stick to it

  2. Bet only what you can afford to lose

  3. Treat betting as a form of entertainment, not a way to make money

  4. A team that has won several matches in a row isn't guaranteed to win the next one

  5. Sports betting always involves uncertainty

So, to reiterate, how to bet on IPL matches is a clean and easy process where you select an IPL match, review the betting odds, choose a betting market, enter a stake, and place your bet. And, of course, all along the way you hope to win!
